Oddly Accurate Things is a joint exhibition by Irish artists Eleanor McCaughey and Lucy Sheridan responding to the “Unset in Stone” multi-year cultural programme. Curated by Simon Fennessy Corcoran. Free and all are welcome.
This exhibition presents ideas of materialism and the longevity of an object in both meaning and physicality. The work shifts between 2D and 3D objects using materials and techniques that come with a rich history of place and time, arranged in contrast to materials reflecting the disposable and voguish nature of culture today. “I kept coming back to all these pots… and actually realised that they were this incredible signifier of historical precedence. They held the presence and concerns of their time period—through both surface and form.” Nicole Cherubini Considering the object as a monument of sorts, the presentation and installation of the works is important to each artist. We are interested in the idea of elevating the status of objects through display, lending the object new meaning and a facade of importance through representation, similar to the constructed facade of object and the self through advertising on social media. |
