BEDECK is an ongoing collaborative project between myself and David Lunney.
After seeing each other’s work in exhibitions in 2017/2018, it became apparent to both of us that our artistic processes have similarities whilst the finished works differ in striking ways. These processes begin with the building of sculptures using inexpensive materials, such as mirror, party decorations, plasticine, tape, clay etc. These sculptures are made less for their intrinsic value but rather as a vehicle to create two-dimensional still and moving imagery. Every piece exhibited at Platform Arts has evolved from a collaborative idea or suggestion. A prominent element in the Platform exhibition was video animation (gif) of collaged work on loop; this was layered with a sound piece by Strand Unit, suggesting a feeling of chaos with an overload on the senses. The sound piece was composed in the final days leading up to the show when Eleanor was in the ICU in St Jame’s hospital. This piece is an emotional piece, composed using the recordings of the machines that Eleanor was hooked up to after her operation. The pulsing and repetitive noises of the machines are interlaced with the beautiful sounds of the mandolin played by David Lunney. |
